About

Hi! My name is Jaychan, my actual name is Jacky. This site serves a few different purposes, but as the name suggests, it is a place to showcase my photo gallery, it is a personal blog, a place to share interesting photos but ultimately, a place for me to learn, write and recollect on one of my most passionate hobbies – Photography.

I am based in Sydney and enjoy all forms of photography but in particularly outdoor, landscapes, nature and portraits. Really, I love to travel and always have my camera (not the iPhone one) with me. Aside from photography, I am a full-time Front-end Implementer / Creative Designer and an occasional 3D illustrator. Visit http://jaychan.net and jaychan1.deviantart.com to see some of other works!

My Gear:

My setup is nothing extraordinary, and I consider it reasonably affordable. After all, they say it’s the photographer and not the camera that takes great pictures and I believe that to a great extent, but boy I wish I could afford a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L IS II on a 5D Mark III!

canon-60D-body

Body: Canon 60D

The thing I love most about this camera is that I can change settings really fast. The flip screen’s a bit of a novelty and I rarely use it, though it is great for video.
canon_17-55_f2.8

Lens: Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM

My very first lens. I still use this lens like a work horse because it’s so versatile. Unfortunately it is an EF-S so it won’t work on Full Frames which is a pity because it’s so nice.

canon-EF-70-300

Lens: Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

This lens is extremely good value for money! I always have so much fun with it and it produces superbly sharp images. Not to mention how light it is. Focus can be a little slow as the barrel rotates itself.

Flash: Canon 430EX II Speedlite

Does the job, although I think it is a tad expensive. It’s got E-TTL which I think is useful for weddings but other I never use it. I think the YN-560 II Speedlite is even better for a third of the price.

Tripod: Manfrotto 190cxpro3 with 494RC2 head

Another item I cannot live without, this tripod suits all my needs. Made out of carbon fibre and weighing a little over 1kg, I never get tired of carrying it around for my travel needs (physically speaking!).
